What is a digital video recorder?

DVR thumbA digital video recorder (DVR), also known as a digital television recorder (DTR) or personal video recorder (PVR), is a piece of equipment that allows users to record TV directly onto a hard disk or other form of memory contained within it.

It does not use video tapes or DVDs and connects directly to your television set.

Some digital TV reception equipment contains DVR/PVR technology, combining the ability to receive, record and play back programmes from the same piece of equipment.
